I discovered Anusara Yoga in 2009 as a teenager in Los Angeles, and it was a homecoming of sorts. Life had dealt me a hand of ACES, if you're familiar with the assessment, and I'd been recently kicked out of my home for being queer. I discovered yoga while living with a friend, cried in my first class, and knew I'd found the practice for me. I kept with it when I moved to the Bay, made it through undergrad at UC Berkeley, and embarked on solo backpacking trips. In 2015 my plan to study in India was derailed by an earthquake in Nepal, and I returned home to complete a 200-hr Iyengar-influenced Yoga Teacher Training at Square One Yoga in El Cerrito, CA. (Concurrently, I found bodywork, underwent training, and began practicing that as well). This community launched the beginning of my very rewarding career in these healing traditions. The pandemic changed everything, SQ1 eventually closed, I found a new home at Gaia Yoga in Richmond, where I still sub when in town, but I'm currently living in Honolulu, Hawaii, and looking for my yoga home here.
I believe my sequences are mindful, challenging, empowering yet therapeutic, and fortified by my other areas of interest and passion. May this practice help us process our unprocessed material, bring about deep healing, restore us to a sense of wholeness in ourselves and on this Earth. May it serve to remind us how powerful, intentional, and purposeful we are, and bring us one step closer to liberation & awakening.
